Wow. If you’ve been following along on my Instagram then you know that the last month or so has been CRAZY! From our wedding, to our honeymoon, to finding out we had to move last minute, to getting back in the swing of things for work my brain has been all over the map! But we are finally settling into our new apartment and don’t plan on leaving ANY TIME soon ? !!! I am so excited to be back in the swing of things and finally have wifi (woohoo!) so that I can finally catch you all up on all the exciting things that have been happening!
A while ago I put up a pole on my Instagram stories and asked if y’all wanted to see a recap of our honeymoon. It was a yes across the board so I figured this would be a good place to start! For those of you who don’t know Josh and I have been living together for about 4 years now. So when it came time to figure out our wedding registry we decided to do a untraditional route and use Honey Fund instead of your typical registry because we already have all the things we need at home. We loved the idea of Honey Fund because it made it so easy for all our friends and family to donate to our dream honeymoon!
When it came to actually deciding on where to go we went back and forth for FOREVER! We talked about Italy, Greece, Spain, and even a road trip in California! Ultimately we decide to keep the travel relatively simple and go to Saint Lucia! We didn’t choose Saint Lucia for any particular reason, in fact Josh’s sister helped us pick it out because she loves travel and knows about so many different places! We figured it was warm, beautiful and easy to get to so lets do it!
We went through a local travel agency here in Richmond and booked our honeymoon at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort! We LOVED this resort! It wasn’t too big and overwhelming and the food was fantastic! This resort is all-inclusive which made things super easy. The only things we paid for were the excursions we did (we will get to that in a minute). The people and locals were very friendly and the weather was fantastic! It was truly an amazing trip and a perfect way to kickoff our married life together!
As I mentioned above we did decide to do 2 excursions while we were there. The first one we did was horseback riding around the island and on the beach! Now let me give you a little back story on how we were able to do this. So because of all the craziness happening before the trip (we found out we had to move and had to find an apartment asap) We forgot to pull out cash for the trip! The hotel did not have an ATM and the closest ATM was in a casino in town. So we took a cab to the casino and probably spent 20 mins trying to pull money out of the ATM. After calling our bank and trying to get it to work – it wasn’t and at this point we needed to pay the cab driver so we needed up going to a local bank and pulling out cash in Eastern Caribbean currency! Our cab driver was so nice and helped us with the whole thing and taught us the conversion rate from US to EC!
Now back to the horses haha! It was AMAZING! Josh had never been on a horse before but he did great and we got to see some amazing views of the island. We also made a stop at a beach and took the horses in the water! Total dream come true for me!!!! Josh was even cantering on the horse by the end of it! It was such an amazing experience to share with each other and it is definitely something we wont forget!
The second excursion we decide to do was a boat tour of the island! It included seeing all of the main attractions like the waterfall, mud bath, and the famous mountains called the Pitons. We also learned so much about the island, like that their main export is bananas and they export them to England! And the female to male ratio is 6-1, talk about some girl power!!!! We even got to have lunch at a local restaurant! It was truly SO much fun and by the end of the excursion everyone was dancing on the boat and drinking rum punch together!
Well, if you’ve made it this far in the blog post, congratulations!!!! In all seriousness our honeymoon was magical and everything we could of hoped for it to be. I want to take a minute to thank everyone who donated to our Honey Fund to make this trip possible and for giving us an experience of a lifetime! Enjoy some of the photos from the trip and get ready to see our wedding photos on the next blog post!!!!! 🙂
Our honeymoon surprise when we got into our room
First night, dinner on the beach featuring a very greasy and tired Erika ?
Our first breakfast on the island!
There were a lot of animals on the island and on the resort. Josh thinks I am an animal whisperer because they all flocked to me! Or maybe it was because I would always give them food? lol!
My HUSBAND!!!!
Fun Fact: every since I was a little girl I wanted a horse! I even still dream of owning land big enough to have horses, they are one of my favorite animals!
The best napping spot EVER!
These are the famous mountains called the Pitons!
Josh and I had fun in the mud bath ?
