Happy Thursday sweet friends! The other day Josh and I were scrolling through some of your comments on our YouTube channel and instead of seeing the typical youtube comments, we saw one that stood out to us. One of our subscribers asked me a personal question. She explained that she was struggling with her confidence in order to push her business into the world. This hit home for me, because not only did I struggle with this myself (and still do) but I feel like it’s something that most photographers or any business owner still struggle with.
Confidence in your business can be a really intimidating thing. You need to present yourself in a certain way for people to take you seriously, but just because you’re doing that doesn’t mean that you ACTUALLY have the confidence that your craving. So I decided to come up with 3 tips for the beginners in business to help quickly gain your confidence and help put yourself and your business “out there.”
You have to remember that when you start a business it is SO important that you are keeping yourself busy. People want things that are in demand. You can spend months designing the perfect website or creating the most amazing client experience for your business, but the fact of the matter is that if you don’t have people or clients to vouch for you, it’s not gonna take off like you think it’s going to. Creating a network of people or clients that push your business for you is the best type of marketing, and the best way to find those people is by “starting from the bottom” and build your army of clients that encourage your business for you. Now I’m not saying that this will happen over night, but if you start with by doing things for free and keeping yourself busy, you will see your demand go up, and you will start to be able to form your army of people to help encourage your business and push it out into the world.
Another way to help gain the confidence you need to run a successful business it by practicing. The only way you are going to become comfortable with putting yourself out there for all your clients and other people to see is by practicing. The more clients you interact with, the more couples you pose, your confidence will increase with every session. In order to be confident in a certain area, you need to expose yourself to it. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and give yourself a challenge. I promise that with each session you do, you will not only grow with your skills as a photographer, but you will also start to gain that confidence that you need to push yourself ever more!
I feel like this could be one of the most important aspects for any kind of business. You always have to remember to give yourself some grace. Running a business is hard. It’s also really scary and intimidating. Some days are going to be tough, and their might even be days where you question if you are even cut out to do this anymore. My answer to you is to give yourself grace. EVERYONE has gone through this phase. Every business has had to start at the bottom of the totem pole and every business owner has compared themselves to other business’s. You have to remember that every business that you are comparing yours to, has been in the EXACT same spot you are in. Give yourself some grace, take the night off, grab some popcorn and a movie and just relax. I promise that if you work hard and push through you will make it through all your struggles and you will get to the point you want to be at. Remember that your heart lead you down this journey for a reason, so don’t give up on it just quite yet!
